Justice

Early Intervention and Preventative Work

We believe in supporting young people, communities, and families in counteracting violence, and supporting young people who have had justice interactions.

Justice

Elevating Potential, Uniting Neighborhoods

We leverage the transformative power of athletics to build resilience, promote physical wellness, and create inclusive spaces where every young person can thrive.

Providing Support across the Youth Justice Continuum

ASPYA Foundation was established in response to the tragedy of youth violence and a shared commitment to creating safer, stronger, and more connected communities for young people. Since our establishment, we have recognised that meaningful responses to youth offending require more than a single intervention. Young people need support before they enter the justice system, while they are navigating it, and as they transition back into their communities.

We view youth justice not as an isolated issue, but as the result of challenges in other areas of a young person's life, including education, family support, mental health, and community connection. We believe many instances of violence and offending can be prevented when young people have access to early, culturally responsive support before they reach a crisis point. For this reason, our work is centred on prevention, early intervention, and restoration, addressing the root causes of offending rather than its symptoms.

ASPYA Foundation supports this mission through..

Our programs actively fight against the systemic marginalization of vulnerable populations, ensuring that everyone has fair access to basic human needs, fair labor practices, and the opportunity to thrive without the constant weight of systemic prejudice.

Build2Lead

ASPYA responded to a recognised gap in culturally responsive mentoring for young people experiencing complex challenges including disengagement from education, family conflict, peer influences, identity struggles and involvement in offending behaviour. Through Build2Lead, young people are matched with carefully selected community mentors who bring lived, cultural and community experience to the mentoring relationship.

Reclaimed Voices

A documentary depicting the journey associated with knife crime and rehabilitation, focussed on community healing and narrative reclaiming. Received notable media attention including its feature on national media service, ABC News.
Our mission is to break the cycle of disadvantage by equipping young Africans with the skills and confidence to create a bright future for themselves and their communities.

The Consortium Approach directly fuels this mission by:

Uniting Legal and Advocacy Experts

By partnering with pro-bono attorneys, human rights organizations, and legal clinics, we provide our communities with a powerful network of representation and rights-education that they could not easily access on their own.

Amplifying Grassroots Organizers

We pool resources with local community leaders and grassroots activists, ensuring that those closest to the systemic issues have the funding, platforms, and organizational backing to lead effective, community-driven campaigns for change.

Driving Collaborative Policy Reform

The consortium model allows us to unite academic institutions, policy think tanks, and civic organizations to draft, lobby for, and implement data-driven legislative reforms that protect vulnerable populations on a municipal and regional scale.

Expression of Interest

The Aspiring Young Africans (ASPYA) Foundation believes that breaking the cycle of disadvantage requires a united, community-driven front. Through our Consortium Approach, we are actively seeking to partner with local councils, government agencies, grassroots coalitions, and community leaders.
